Peritas Neapolitan Mastiffs

Nessie & Q chillin'!

  Welcome to Peritas Neapolitan Mastiffs

Brenton & I have each been heavily involved in animals since we were too young to walk. My parents bred Golden Retrievers when I was toddler and my great grandfather was one of the first people in Australia to import Pugs. I grew up surrounded by a variety of animals, in particular large breed dogs, such as Great Danes, Rhodesian Ridgebacks and Dobermans. At the age of 6 to 7 years, I had already made a deciison on my life's vocation............Veterinary Science.

Peritas kennels is the only Neapolitan Mastiff breeder in Australia that is owned & operated by an experienced veterinary surgeon who is AQIS Certified, IVAS Certified, and Camelot Farms A.I Certified. We believe we are the only Neapolitan Breeder in Australia that is sponsored by a food company, Vets All Natural.

Brenton has been involved in dog breeding and showing since he too was a toddler, learning to walk holding onto a Basset. He showed his mothers Bassets until registering his own kennel prefix, 'Fleetwood', which was his Grandfathers prefix from England. He showed his first own bred dog to its Championship title in the mid 70's.

Family picnic!

We don’t claim to be ‘the best’ nor to be breeding the ‘PERFECT’ Neapolitan Mastiff, as the perfect dog doesn’t exist, but we are laying claim to some of the best hip and elbow scores in Australia, as well as an honest and open approach to better breeding practices. We hope it results in 'raising the bar' and producing better quality puppies and dogs. We are endeavouring to breed as close to the standard as possible, aiming to produce 'true' Mastino that are heavily boned & wrinkled, yet still retain the gait of a lion, an important breed trait. We also look for equable temperament, outstanding health, vitality, longevity, and a dog capable of being an active family companion, not simply a 'head' breed.

Be certain of what you are buying and that you will have continued support from your breeder. Be wary of co-ownership as the breeder maintains control of your dog/bitch! If you are ever unsure, seek advice, either from another breeder, from a dog judge or from the canine control council!

Unlike many breeders, our animals are our family, our children and our life, NOT a 'collection'! They all live inside with us, travel with us wherever we go and they all live together in harmony. They have their own kennels inside, where they sleep at night under the aircon, but otherwise, they eat, play and frolic together.

Their daily routine involves accompanying us to the veterinary surgery for a day of socialisation and fun. They are often the topic of conversation in our little country town.
