History of the Yorkie
History of the Yorkshire Terrier breed
.........a work in progress!!
The 'evolution' of the yorkshire terrier continues to be a work in progress.
It is a breed that has developed from many breeds initially and was first recognised in around 1868 with
Huddersfield Ben being credited as the Founding Father.
Even today, there is still tremendous variation in size, colour, coat texture
of the Yorkie because of its ancestors. The genes will never have a chance to 'set' until breeders
use stock that truly adheres to the breed standard.
